Swim lessons during the winter? Why? This is a question I get all the time as a swim teacher and coach. Parents question if their children really need to be in swim lessons all year long. The short answer: yes. But, there are methods behind my madness, I promise.
The first and most important reason to keep your children in swim lessons all year is that it facilitates year round safety. Although summer swim lessons are great, having your child swim all year will give them the skills they need to feel safe and secure around water. This is a great way to give you, as a parent, peace of mind for the upcoming summer months.
The second reason is that it can keep your child healthy. Sickness tends to run rampant during the winter months, and many children fall sick with common illnesses and bugs. Keeping your child enrolled in swim lessons helps to boost their immune system as well as promote cardiovascular health.
The first two are reason enough to keep your child enrolled in lessons over the winter months, but lets not forget about socialization. Many sports are off season during the winter, which leads to a decrease in the amount of activities that your child is involved in. I know that many parents find this a huge relief and a much needed break from the constant practices and hectic schedules that come with organized sports, but socialization is so important for your child. Having a weekly activity will allow them to have a reliable time to meet new friends, get some exercise and take a break from being indoors.
As you can see, there are many reasons the keep your child enrolled in swim lessons, especially over the winter. So, what are you waiting for? Sign up for Winter lessons today.
