Patrick Ballard, Team Coach
Patrick began his career with Elite in 2006 as a party leader later transitioning to his current role as coach for all team Levels.  Patrick graduated from Shawnee Mission West in 2003 and immediately started as a resident firefighter with Fire District #1 of Johnson County while attending KCK Community College to obtain his EMT certification.  After living at the fire station for a year, he was hired full-time.  Patrick hold certifications as a Kansas EMT-B, Federal Wildland Firefighter Type-2, Rope Rescue Technician, Fire Office, Fire Instructor and is a member of the International Association of Firefighters Local 3559.   In addition to those certifications, he is also a safety-certified Professional Member of USAG.   On the rare occasion that Patrick has time off work, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and working around his house in Gardner.

Naomi Mayekawa, Choreographer & Dance Coach
Naomi’s involvement in dance began at the age of 3 in California where she studied ballet, tap and jazz.  Excelling in ballet,  Royal Ballet style,  she was awarded the highest honor by teachers from the Royal Ballet School of England.  While a student at UC Davis, the University hired her to teach ballet and tap while she was also coaching at numerous gymnastics clubs in Northern California.  She is actively sought after as a clinician for Region 1 Congress which she lectured at from 1980-2007.

In 1980, Naomi moved to Southern California to dance professionally while continuing to coach compulsory through elite level gymnasts. During this time Bela Karolyi asked her to choreograph routines for his elite gymnasts and coach at his summer camps in Texas.  Naomi has had the opportunity to instruct and consult the athletes and coaches of the Rhythmic National Team.   Naomi traveled to Korea in 1981 to coach a gymnast in the National Sports Festival and introduces the jazz style of dance to the country. In 1993, Naomi and her husband  moved to Ohio and was recruited to be the assistants women’s coach at Ohio State University.

In 1995 they relocated to Kansas.  She joined the Elite family in 1999.  Naomi has had the opportunity to study many styles of dance and is also a freelance choreographer, consultant and coach.  She continues to strive to invent new techniques to emphasize to gymnasts the various basics that dancers seem to learn innately.  This is her challenge, her strength and her passion!

Faith Higgins, Level 3 Team Coach

Faith began gymnastics at Elite at age 11. She competed for Elite through her senior year of high school, where she qualified to Regionals as a Level 9. She is currently attending Johnson County Community College with aspirations of becoming a nurse. In her free time she enjoys hiking, sewing, & spending time with her family.

Becky Rooney, Xcel Team Coach

Becky has been with Elite since she moved to Kansas City from New York in August 2015. She began as the Recreational Director and has since transitioned to working with the Competitive teams. Becky was a competitive gymnast growing up, and has recently enjoyed getting back into the sport. She spends the majority of her free time at the dance studio where she is a choreographer and an aspiring professional dancer.

Sofiia Filatova, Swim Instructor

Sofiia has been swimming competitively since she was 7 years old. She was a part of the youth National Russian Swim Team from 2006-2010. After that, she was a member of Russian National Swim Team until right before she came to the United States of America. Sofiia swam for the University of Kansas where she helped her team place 2nd in the Big XXII Conference. After graduating from Kansas, Sofiia went to the University of Wyoming where she received her master’s degree. Along with getting her education she served as an assistant coach for Division I swim team. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her furry friend- German Shepherded dog- Shatzy.

Michael Brower, Swim Instructor

Mike has been competitively swimming since he was 13. He swam in high school and continued to swim in college at College of the Holy Cross, where he specialized in the 100 yard and 200 yard butterfly. Since then, he has started his Doctorate of Chiropractic at Cleveland University – Kansas City and will be looking for potential patients in November 2017. Mike also helped to coach a Special Olympics swim team in Washington County, Maryland for 7 years. In his spare time, he enjoys going to concerts, watching tv, and doing anything outdoors, especially if it involves swimming!
